eBay Merch in Checkout

Summary: Flow design and UI design for introducing merchandising into eBay checkout

Problem context: Because purchase (winning an auction, or clicking "buy it now") is separate from actual payment in the eBay world, it is of paramount importance to drive users through the checkout process and get money to the seller. However, sellers also want to encourage people to buy additional items during checkout.

Project goal: Introduce merchandising to eBay checkout while not driving up the number of "unpaid items" that would result from people bailing out of the checkout process.

Target audience: eBay buyers (to use the function), and eBay sellers (to accept the functionality without difficulty).

My role: Worked with product manager to formulate flow for merchandise-in-checkout process; produced all UI and interaction designs; managed a team of design professionals in usability, visual design, site-text creation, and prototyping; presented in-process artifacts to the numerous departmental and executive stakeholders across eBay.
