Design: SelectMinds 5.0 User Portal
![]()
Summary: SelctMinds hosts social networking applications for the enterprise, enabling companies to network both internal and external constituencies. SelectMinds 5.0 represents a complete rearchitecture of SelectMinds codebase to yield fully configurable true SaaS application. Additionally, 5.0 enables clients to run multiple, uniquely branded hubs and tightly control population-segment access to hubs and content. Finally, the user experience ensures that a unique profile across multiple hubs is a sensible and pleasant experience.
Problem context: SelectMinds' client instances had clasically been heavily customized to accommodate client feature requests. As we approached 45 clients, it was clear that this approach would not scale. Further, clients were frustrated by our inability to make fast changes to their customized appliations, or to deploy new sites to their instance.
Project goal: Completely rearchitect SelectMinds code to allow for single-instance code and configurable client experiences.
Target audience: Any constituency which the client wants to network. Typically: Alumni, Employees, Retirees, New Hires, and others.
My role: Managed product from start to finish of the 5.0 project. Collected client requirements; collected internal technical requirements; documented requirements; produced iterative interface design sketches and wireframes; managed detailed feature-specification process with business analyst; designed all user interface, user interaction, and visual design; worked on engineering team to triage and assess QA issues; kept SelectMinds management stakeholders appraised of goals and progress.
